Haas will need to find a replacement for Nico Hulkenberg from the 2025 Formula 1 season onwards, after the German’s move to Sauber (future Audi in 2026) was confirmed. And former driver Ralf Schumacher already has a name in mind for the American team.

In an interview with the German Sky Sports, Ralf believes that signing Valtteri Bottas would be a smart move for Haas. The Finn is without a contract from the end of 2024 at Sauber, and with the arrival of Hulkenberg next year, he loses a renewal option.

Schumacher said: “I would bet on Bottas, but let’s see what happens. They still need an experienced and talented driver. I don’t think (Kevin) Magnussen is enough on his own. I’m curious to see who will get there.”

Bottas meets the experience requirement mentioned by Schumacher. The driver is currently competing in his 12th season in Formula 1, has 19 victories and 20 pole positions, in addition to having a track record in both top teams and the midfield.

Another driver highly regarded for the Haas vacancy is the young British driver Oliver Bearman, who currently races in F2 and impressed in his debut with Ferrari at the F1 Saudi Arabian GP, when he achieved a great P7 after replacing Carlos Sainz. However, Ralf considers that Bearman is not what the team needs at the moment.
