The study “Economy of Carioca Football”, by Rio City Hall, aims to show the importance of football for the Rio economy. Among the various interesting information in its 41 pages, it details how many games each of the big clubs played in the city in 2023 and various indices derived from these matches.

Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense and Vasco played 126 games in Rio last year. Fights for the Campeonato Carioca, Campeonato Brasileiro, Copa do Brasil, Copa Libertadores da América, Copa Sul-Americana and Recopa Sul-Americana. Maracanã, Engenhão and São Januário received a total audience of 4.5 million fans, an average of 37,200. Ticket revenue was R$294.6 million.

Flamengo played 33 games in Rio de Janeiro in 2023, bringing 1.8 million fans to Maracanã, equivalent to 40.1% of the total. Average of 55,100 people per comparison. Fluminense held 36, attracting 1.4 million fans (30.3%), with 38,200 fans per match. In 26 games, Vasco brought 581,000 (12.5%) to the stands, an average of 26,400, while Botafogo, in 31 appearances, attracted 759,000 (16.7%), an average of 24,500.
