Uruguay’s Liverpool removed Paraguayan left-back Miguel Samudio, 37, for flirting with the girlfriend of teammate defender Ignacio Rodríguez, 20, according to local press information published by “O Globo”.

Samudio, known in Brazil for his time at Cruzeiro in 2014 and one of the highlights at Liverpool last season, sent messages claiming to have an emotional bond with Ignacio’s girlfriend, according to the local press. Coach Emiliano Alfaro did not reveal the reason for his departure, but assured that the decision came from him.

– It’s a private and personal issue. The decision is made 100% by me, accompanied by the club and supported by the president. We have decided that he will not be part of the first team. He has a contract and must resolve his situation with the club. I’m not going to give details because it’s a personal matter and it’s not up to me – the coach told Uruguay’s DSports channel.

Samudio, who has a contract until the end of 2024, started to train separately and join Liverpool’s third team. He was an absolute starter and was an important part of Liverpool’s first title in the history of the Uruguayan Championship, in 2023. Last season, the full-back played 40 games for the team and scored two goals.

Samudio’s last game for Liverpool was on the 11th of this month, in the 3-1 defeat to Palmeiras, at Allianz Parque, in the Copa Libertadores.
