In these Olympics, the United States will not be playing basketball. Last week, the list of players who will be part of the American squad that will go to the 2024 Olympic Games, which will take place in Paris, France, was released. The American team draws attention because it truly is a “Dream Team” made up only of players who are the cream of the crop in the NBA.
Dream Team reunites Lebron James and Kevin Durant
Steve Kerr is a lucky coach as he will have a strong squad to compete in the Paris Olympic Games which take place between July 26th and August 11th. Among the 12 called up are today’s biggest basketball stars, including figures like Lebron James who will try for his 4th Olympic medal, including two gold medals, one at the Beijing Games in 2008 and another in London in 2012.
Anthony Davis is another who returns to the national team after a long time without playing for the United States, along with Lebron’s return after 12 years. An important figure in the American squad is Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns, who was present in previous events and returns once again for the Olympics in 2024. The greatest scorer in the current American team, he scored 435 points defending his nation.
He was one of the protagonists in the gold medals won at the London Olympic Games in 2012, Rio in 2016 and also at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics that took place in 2021. It is worth remembering that Kevin Durant and the retired Carmelo Anthony are the only three-time Olympic champions in US national team basketball games.
Meanwhile, three members of this squad, which is trying to win a fifth consecutive championship for the United States, are debuting in the Olympic games: Kawhi Leonard, Joel Embiid and Stephen Curry. Kawhi Leonard was the last selected for the selection because of doubts about his conditioning, as he was recently injured, but he was confirmed a little after the almost complete revelation that the team had previously.
Stephen Curry will make his debut at the Olympics after playing for the United States twice in the 2010 and 2014 World Cup. Joel Embiid makes his debut after a year as a naturalized American, the Philadelphia 76ers center could still play for the French and Cameroon national teams.

American team promises to regain protagonism
The team that the United States formed is really impressive and there is a reason for this. Recently, at the Basketball World Cup, which took place in 2023, the United States did not do well, for the size of the team they represent they had a weak result and finished the event in 4th place, with an alternative team.
Despite winning gold in past Olympic events, the return of Lebron James and the entire team called up by Steve Kerr indicate that the United States is here to win. It is worth remembering that at the Olympics the United States has impressive records in men’s basketball, in 19 participations, they have never failed to win a medal, totaling 16 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze.
For those who want to follow the American team, it will make its debut at the Paris 2024 Games against Serbia on July 28th, however the “Dream Team” will be tested beforehand in several friendly games. The first of these will be against Canada on July 10th, in the same month the American team will face Australia on the 15th, Serbia on the 17th, South Sudan on the 20th and to finish, Germany on July 22nd.
