The 2024 Challenger Series begins as in 2023, on the Australian waves of Snapper Rocks.

The circuit to access the elite of world surfing starts on Saturday morning (27/4) in Australia, Friday night (26/4) in Brazil due to the time difference. The Gold Coast Pro 2024 is the first stage of the Challenger Series of the season and takes place on the right of Snapper Rocks. A total of 20 Brazilians appear on the event’s heat list, 16 men and 4 women.

One of the Brazilians selected is João Chianca. Fourth best surfer in the world in 2023 and guaranteed surfer at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Saquarem native returns to competition after the accident he suffered at the beginning of last December in Pipeline, Hawaii. Chianca competes in the second heat of the second men’s phase against North American Nola Rapoza and South African Luke Slijpen. The fourth participant in the dispute will be known after the first phase disputes.

Other Brazilians confirmed at the event are Caio Ibelli, Miguel Pupo, Deivid Silva, Luana Silva and the current stage champion, Samuel Pupo. The five were cut from the elite after the Magaret River Pro 2024.

Slater inside – A name also confirmed in the stage is Kelly Slater. The 11-time world champion from the United States was also cut from the elite this season and had confirmed his retirement, but will participate in the event.

Elite vacancies – The Challenger Series 2024 will have a total of 6 stages. After the end of the circuit, the 10 best men in the ranking and the 5 best women will guarantee places in the CT 2025.

First call – The first call for the Gold Coast Pro 2024 takes place this Friday, at 6:30 pm (Brasília time).
