Since beach volleyball debuted as an Olympic sport, in Atlanta 1996, Brazil has only been without a medal in the sport once, precisely in the last edition of the Olympic Games, in Tokyo. Now, the country is trying to return to the podium at the Paris Olympic Games.
The main hope for a medal, including gold, is the duo Ana Patrícia and Duda. They form the most regular form of the season and lead the world rankings with more than a thousand points difference to the North American Nuss and Kloth.
The other Brazilian team among women for the Paris Olympic Games is also already defined. Carol Solberg and Bárbara Seixas also accumulated good results, they are in fourth place in the ranking and guaranteed their Olympic place.
The two also won important titles this season and arrive as strong candidates for the podium.
Men’s Beach Volleyball
Unlike the scenario among women, it has not yet been defined which Brazilian pairs will qualify for Paris in the men’s category. André and George, who occupy fourth place in the world rankings, got closer to their place with their runner-up finish in the Elite 16 held in Mexico in April.
The two form the most consistent duo in the country and are medal candidates, although they are not favorites. At this moment, the second Brazilian team would be Evandro and Athur, 10th in the world rankings. Pedro Solberg and Guro (18th) are still fighting.
Only two pairs per country can qualify for the Paris Olympic Games in beach volleyball.
Special stage
One of the most anticipated venues for the Paris Olympic Games, the Eiffel Tower Stadium is almost ready. The arena located in Campo de Marte, close to the most famous tourist attraction in the French capital, will host beach volleyball.
The Eiffel Tower Stadium, as it is officially named by the Olympic Games organizers, will have capacity for more than 12 thousand people and will be dismantled after the Olympics.
