Justin Gaethje put his BMF belt on the line, the toughest fighter, in a highly electrifying duel against Max Holloway at UFC 300, on the 13th. In addition to raising the audience with a lot of action, the fight had an impressive outcome , with Gaethje being knocked out in the last second of the fifth round, losing his title.
Famous for starring in very busy fights, the now former BMF champion received more than 180 significant blows in the fight against Holloway, 62 of them to the head, in addition to being unconscious when he was knocked out.
The accumulation of blows raised an alarm in the American fighter, who promised to take a break to recover.
– Metaphorically, it could be ready tomorrow, but physically I want to take care of myself. I really think that the repeated concussions, with me going out, receiving that blow, it would be foolish to return to training at any time before 180 days – he explained, in an interview with “The MMA Hangout”.
Gaethje explained that he will train to stay in good physical shape, but stressed that he will stay away from fight training.
– I could do cardio, stay in shape, that’s what I want to try to do, especially getting older, it’s harder to get back into the best shape of my life, so I want to stay active. Obviously, physical contact will be limited for some time, as I want to preserve myself. I think I know months, at least, before I get hit again. But that doesn’t mean I won’t be training all the time.
