Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, Ferrari drivers, competed for position in the Sprint of the Chinese GP

Formula 1, like all sports, is capable of providing beautiful and exciting scenes. The ones that move the heart. The most recent case was the honor that Chinese Guanyu Zhou received when he finished the race despite a lowly 14th position, far from the scoring zone. It was the Chinese GP and the organizers of the event set up a special corner for him to receive the affection of the fans and receive an ovation.

It was the first time that the Chinese public had seen their compatriot race. GP was returning after years of hiatus. Certain tears for all sides, even for the Brazilian spectator, in the drought of years since Felipe Massa retired. But sport has the other side of the coin. That selfish, spiteful and ambitious one, with the memory that only the victors are remembered in history. It’s brutal, but it’s how the sport works.

It’s not necessarily a bad aspect, especially when the emotion comes from competition. Hence the surprise that Carlos Sainz was accused of allegedly “crossing the line” by competing with his teammate. A fair, clean race, on the track and beautiful with the unmistakable red of the Ferrari side by side on the track.

The Spaniard has the rope around his neck, without a seat for next year, and was the only one to break Red Bull’s hegemony twice. Each time, there was the demand that he should let Charles Leclerc win. Why?

It is true that the passion of tifosi, fans of Scuderia Ferrari, with the Monegasque is difficult to explain, because it is almost spiritual. But why, in the same car and under the same conditions, since neither of them has the nickname of first driver, should Sainz open? No one is even close to competing for the championship and even more so since the Spaniard needs to show good service in advance.

It’s good to have team spirit, but at the end of the day, teams themselves only have loyalty to their own interests. Mercedes did not want to grant a years-long contract to Lewis Hamilton, keeping an eye on the evolution of Kimi Antonelli, who the team believes will be the next Max Verstappen.

It was also denied that the Englishman would be an ambassador for the team after retiring after years of dedication. Lewis received all this and more from Ferrari. “Selfish” and “opportunist” were also directed at the pilot. The logic doesn’t add up and a famous saying sums it up: “The shrimp that sleeps take the wave.”
