O Santos loaned midfielder Matheus Nunes to the Center West to compete in the Second Division of the Goiano Championship. The contract runs until the middle of the year and the expectation is that the Goiás club’s SAF owners will make a proposal to take Menino da Vila to the Arab World.

Matheus was training in ‘Group 2’, among those away from Peixe. Due to his knee recovery, he was left off the list of those registered for the Copinha and, as he was born in 2003, he was too old for the base. The player was warned that he would not be part of coach Fábio Carille’s plans and so he remained in the alternative group looking for a club to play in the season.

Before the injury, the athlete had already received an offer from the same Arab World, but Peixe held on to the boy with a view to a future promotion to the main team, which did not happen. The midfielder is 100% recovered from knee surgery to reconstruct the meniscus and tendon last April.

Before the Copa São Paulo, the club carried out tests with the athlete to enroll Matheus, but tests showed that the knee would not be able to handle the sequence. It would be the player’s last Junior Cup contest. He had even been training with the U20 category. In addition to activities at the club, he continued to carry out work outside the Santos structure, such as pilates and muscle conditioning.

Matheus Nunes arrived at Santos after standing out in the Votorantim U-15 Cup while still playing for Goiás. Since he was 7 years old at school and on the Esmeraldina team, he wore the number 10 shirt and played more advanced, but his preferred position is as a second midfielder. Born in Goiânia, the player has a Santos contract until the end of 2025.

Last year, Matheus sat out the season while recovering in the Medical Department. In 2022, he played in 9 matches for the Copa São Paulo, for the Paulista U20 there were 19 games with 4 goals scored and for the Brazilian category there were 9 duels and one goal scored. In the final stretch of the state, he suffered an injury that took him out of the knockout stages and returned in the last game, playing in the 2-2 draw against Corinthians that gave the title to the Under-20s.
