Fluminense ends its preparation to face Cerro Porteño, in the third round of Conmebol Libertadores, this Wednesday. Without being able to count on a quartet away due to a gathering in Rio de Janeiro, coach Fernando Diniz had Renato Augusto and Calegari return to the list of related players. One of the most experienced in the squad, striker Germán Cano spoke about how the squad tries to help the young people, who will be involved in the episode.

Fluminense takes on Cerro Porteño, tomorrow, in Conmebol Libertadores

– Obviously, we are also surprised (by the news) of our companions. Regrettably. It’s a little difficult to talk about this. We always try to help with our experience. We know it’s not good for Fluminense, for all of us – said Cano, adding:

– We always try to help the kids. They will learn and it will remain in their minds, so they don’t have to do it again.

In March of this year, Cano suffered a sprain in his right knee that ruled him out of two games – against Flamengo, in Carioca, and against Alianza Lima, in the Libertadores debut. The attacker highlighted that he suffered serious inflammation in the area, which made it difficult for him to perform on the field.

– I’m trying to get back to the best possible physical level. I had a lot of inflammation in my knee, but I do everything I can to get on the field and do my best. The medical department is improving this and I’m trying to do my best – he added.

Asked about the challenge of facing Cerro Porteño, Cano cited an old acquaintance of Brazilian football: Diego Churín. Back at the Paraguayan club, the ex-Grêmio player ended a run of four games without scoring against Sportivo Ameliano and found the net again against 2 de Mayo.

– Cerro Porteño is a very good team, strong, physical players who press very well. There are great people in the area, like Churín, who we know very well. We will try everything to get the three points – added Cano.

Fluminense’s planning included training at the Feliciano Cáceres stadium, home of Sportivo Luqueño, the club that introduced Romerito to football. However, heavy rain in Asunción affected the pitch, and Tricolor took the program to General Díaz’s General Adrián Jara stadium.

The Conmebol annex appeared as an option, but was discarded because it was too exposed. On Friday, Fluminense will do one last training session in Paraguay before taking off for São Paulo, where they will face Corinthians on Sunday, in the Brazilian Championship.

Fluminense will have a series of commitments outside Rio de Janeiro. In addition to the duels mentioned by the Libertadores and the Brasileirão, Tricolor will travel to face Sampaio Corrêa (Copa do Brasil), Atlético-MG (game relocated to Cariacica), Colo-Colo and São Paulo.

With four points from two games, Fluminense faces Cerro Porteño this Thursday, at 7pm, at La Nueva Olla Stadium. Tricolor leads Group A of the Libertadores.
