Marcelo Demoliner debuted with victory alongside the Swede Andre Goransson, while the national partner of Fernando Romboli and Marcelo Zormann said goodbye to the competition, against top seeds.
Demoliner and Goransson beat Spaniard Sergio Martos Gornes and Greek Petros Tsitsipas by double 6/3 in their debut. They managed three breaks in the match, two in the first set and one in the second and escaped the two break-points they faced in the entire match.
35-year-old Gaucho and winner of five ATP doubles titles, Demoliner is currently 121st in the rankings and has a career-best 34th place, achieved in 2017. The next opponents will be the Frenchman Jonathan Eysseric and the Italian Andrea Pellegrino, who beat the Germans Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens, seeds 2, by 7/6 (11-9) and 6/4.
Romboli and Zormann were surpassed by the British Julian Cash and the American Robert Galloway, top seeds in Rome and ATP champions in Delray Beach, who scored a double 6/4. Romboli is currently 89th in the rankings at age 35 and is one place below his career best, while 27-year-old Zormann recently entered the top 100 and is ranked 97th.
Coming off the title, Luis Britto debuts with victory in Chile
Champions of Tucuman challenger, last week, Luis Britto and his Argentine partner Gonzalo Villanueva debuted with victory in the challenger in Concepción, Chile. They had won the first set against José Pereira and Japan’s Kaichi Uchida 6/0 when their rivals retired. The tournament has not yet announced the reason for the withdrawal.
A 30-year-old native of São Paulo, Britto is now 278th in the ranking, occupying the best mark of his career. The next rivals could be the Japanese Seita Watanabe and Takeru Yuzuki or the Argentines Franco Ribero and Juan Bautista Torres.
The Brazilian partnership of Daniel Dutra da Silva and Wilson Leite debuted with a victory over the Argentine brothers Leonardo and Valerio Aboian by 6/1, 4/6 and 10-8. Orlando Luz falls in doubles debut in Ostrava
The only Brazilian competing in the Ostrava challenger, Orlando Luz was eliminated in the doubles debut of the Czech tournament on clay courts.
