Audi would be very close according to Hulkenberg

Audi, which will officially enter Formula 1 from 2026, when it will fully take over Sauber (Stake F1 Team), appears to have defined one of its drivers for the 2025 season. According to the website F1-Insider.com, the experienced Nico Hulkenberg , currently at Haas, is close to signing a three-year contract with the team, which will still race as Sauber-Stake next year.

This means that Hulkenberg could already be at the team in 2025 with Sauber, a year before Audi’s official debut in the category.

It is quite likely that Sauber’s two current drivers, Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou, will leave the team at the end of 2024 for Hulkenberg and another driver to join. For the second place, Audi has a strong interest in Carlos Sainz, currently a Ferrari driver, but without a contract for next year, when he will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton at the Scuderia.

The CEO of the future Audi team, Andreas Seidl, expects a decision from Sainz by mid-May. If the Spaniard does not make a decision, Audi will evaluate other candidates, such as Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon. Time is running out for Sainz, who needs to define his future for next season.
