Negotiations for a contract renewal between Sergio Perez and Red Bull Racing may hit a snag. Helmut Marko, the team’s motorsport consultant, said Red Bull was not willing to accept Perez’s initial demands.

The Mexican, who currently occupies second place in the drivers’ championship, wants a three-year contract to continue with the team from the 2025 Formula 1 season onwards. However, Marko indicated that Red Bull prefers a shorter agreement.

“We are not yet in a position to finalize everything,” Marko told Motorsport.NL. “But that has nothing to do with regulations, he knows he needs to perform. Initially he wanted a three-year contract, but we will find a solution.”

Even with this initial impasse, both parties show interest in continuing the partnership. Perez believes that the decision on his future will be made soon, while Red Bull values the Mexican driver’s good performance at the start of the season.

Team boss Christian Horner played down pressure on Perez for a quick announcement. “We are in a situation where we are very happy with our two drivers, but we don’t need to make a decision until the end of the year,” said Horner. “Sergio would like to make an announcement tomorrow, without a doubt, but we as a team are in no rush,” he concluded.
