Charleston (USA) – Two players from the top 10 are already starting the clay season this Tuesday. World number 5 Jessica Pegula and seventh ranked Maria Sakkari will make their debuts at the WTA 500 in Charleston. Also making her debut is Danielle Collins, who was Miami’s champion last Saturday.

Collins enters the court at around 1:30 pm (Brasília time). Now occupying 22nd place in the rankings, she faces Spain’s Paula Badosa, former number 2 in the world and currently ranked 82nd. The North American won the only previous duel, played two seasons ago in San Diego.

Soon after, it will be Maria Sakkari’s turn to make her debut. The Greek faces the Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova, 74th in the ranking, against whom she has two recent victories and one defeat in 2016. The main seed Jessica Pegula debuts at 7pm in a duel with North American Amanda Anisimova. Pegula won the only previous duel, played in 2020. Names like Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys, Charleston champions in 2016 and 2019, also debuted in the main stadium.
