In November, in New York (USA), Tom Aspinall became interim UFC heavyweight champion and has since begun a campaign to fight Jon Jones, owner of the linear title of the category. But, realizing the American’s lack of interest in facing him, the athlete changes focus and starts targeting a veteran who is still on the rise in the division, as well as being an old acquaintance of his.

Without hesitation, the Briton expressed his interest in facing off against Curtis Blaydes again. It is worth noting that the American is fifth in the UFC heavyweight rankings and has a victory over Aspinall. Precisely for this reason, the interim champion of the category defended a possible rematch with ‘Razor’, as, in 2022, he suffered an injury just 15 seconds into the fight. Therefore, defeated for the first and only time in the octagon, the athlete admits that the feeling of revenge against the tormentor exists and is strong.

“I would like to fight Blaydes because when I fought him I got injured and that means technically he won and I don’t like that. I want to be the winner, not Blaydes. So, all due respect to him and everything, he’s a good guy, but professionally, I owe him a beating. That’s what I want to do next”, declared the athlete, on his official ‘YouTube’ channel.

Aspinall’s MMA record

Tom Aspinall, 30, has risen quickly in the UFC. The Briton began his career in the sport in 2014, debuted with the company in 2020 and won the interim heavyweight belt in 2023. In his career, Darren Till’s friend built a record consisting of 14 victories, all of which came via fast track ( 11 by knockout and three by submission), and three defeats. His main triumphs were over Alexander Volkov, Andrei Arlovski, Marcin Tybura, Sergei Pavlovich and Serghei Spivac.
