The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), announced this Thursday, 9th, through his official profile on X (formerly Twitter) that the first estimates from a technical team suggest that R$ 19 billion will be needed to rebuild the state after the end of the climate tragedy.
Until the last bulletin released by the state’s Civil Defense, at 9 am this Thursday, 425 municipalities suffered damage related to the rains and a population of 1.4 million people was affected. In addition, 164,500 people were displaced, 136 were missing and 107 were dead.

“The effect of the floods and the extent of the tragedy are devastating,” declared the governor in the post, adding that in the coming hours, projected actions that take into account the needs of Rio Grande do Sul will be detailed.
