Rescues and searches were interrupted in Porto Alegre this Wednesday (08), after it rained again in the city. Wind and rain hinder the work of firefighters and rescuers, who had to withdraw boats and stop their operations following a request from Porto Alegre City Hall, due to the risk of electrical discharges.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) had already issued four storm and gale warnings for Rio Grande do Sul this Wednesday. At least 11 regions had mapped risks, in the municipalities of the South, Center, Metropolitan region, Vale do Sinos, Serra, Vale do Rio Pardo, Vale do Taquari, North, Missões Region, Fronteira Oeste and Northwest.

According to Inmet, wind gusts can vary between 60km/h and 100km/h, while the expected volume of rain is between 50 and 100 millimeters on the day, with hail falling. In its warning, the city hall spoke of a risk of 15 mm of rain for this Wednesday.

In addition to the rain, there is also a warning for a drop in temperature in the region. A decline of between three and five degrees Celsius is expected. Climatempo indicates that this cold front should move away on Thursday (09), but the weather will remain unstable for a few more days.

Cyclone at the weekend

Climatempo warns of an extratropical cyclone that is forming in the sea between the coast of Uruguay and Buenos Aires, in Argentina. The weather phenomenon is expected to bring more rain and wind to Rio Grande do Sul over the weekend.

The cold front is only expected to leave Rio Grande do Sul on Sunday (12), according to Climatempo, but the threat of rain continues until then and the entry of cold air could make the temperature drop even further.
