O cruise made its two training centers, Tocas da Raposa 1 and 2, available so that clubs in Rio Grande do Sul can carry out their activities. The gesture of solidarity took place due to the floods affecting the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

As it did not mention any club, Cruzeiro left it open that the invitation extends beyond the three RS representatives in Series A: Grêmio, Internacional and Juventude.

“In solidarity with the Rio Grande do Sul clubs, their athletes, employees and managers, Cruzeiro makes the structures of Tocas da Raposa 1 and 2 available to teams that need a training location for as long as necessary.”

Official note from Cruzeiro

In another part of the statement, Raposa highlighted the importance of discussing the best solutions for Brazilian and South American football. The objective is to minimize the negative effects on the teams in Rio Grande do Sul, who, at the moment, are unable to use their own facilities.

“The club is committed to also continuing to dialogue with other clubs and entities involved in Brazilian and South American football so that the best possible solutions are taken to alleviate the impacts of the sad calamity that afflicts the state of Rio Grande do Sul ”.

What happened in Rio Grande do Sul?

The wave of storms in RS began on April 27th and gained strength from the 29th. In just over a week, the rain caused the levels of rivers and lakes to rise, causing flooding in streets and collapses in houses and buildings.

Not even large buildings escaped destruction. The Arena do Grêmio and the Estádio Beira-Rio (Internacional), both in Porto Alegre, were taken by water. The same happened with a Havan store in Lajeado.

In this Tuesday’s report (7/5), the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul reported that 95 people died as a result of the rains, while 131 are missing. There are still 372 injured, 159 thousand homeless and more than 1.4 million affected.

What did the CBF decide in relation to the Brazilian Championship?

The CBF decided to postpone only the games of teams from Rio Grande do Sul in the Brazilian Championship until May 27th. Matches by teams from other states, however, are maintained.

Thus, only Série B will not change the calendar, as no club from Rio Grande do Sul participates in the competition.

  • Series A of the Brazilian Championship
  • Series C of the Brazilian Championship
  • Series D of the Brazilian Championship
  • Brazil’s Cup
  • Series A1 of the Brazilian Women’s Championship
  • Series A2 of the Brazilian Women’s Championship
  • Series A3 of the Brazilian Women’s Championship
  • Brazilian Men’s Under-20 Championship
  • Brazilian Under-20 Women’s Championship

The teams from Rio Grande do Sul involved in tournaments organized by the CBF in 2024 are Grêmio, Internacional, Juventude, Ypiranga, Caxias, São José, Novo Hamburgo, Avenida and Brasil de Pelotas.
