The Plenary of the Chamber of Deputies approved on Monday night (6) the legislative decree that aims to recognize the state of public calamity in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and the municipalities affected by heavy rains. The initiative, signed on Monday afternoon (6) by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), aims to speed up the release of federal aid to RS and municipalities affected by heavy rains.
The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), preached political pacification and stated that the time is for national unity to support Rio Grande do Sul. “May parliament be able to provide answers to reduce bureaucracy, facilitate and serve and alleviate the suffering of a people who are going through a very difficult time,” he stated. Before the vote, Lira even asked parliamentarians to avoid debates or speeches that deviated from the topic.
The legislative decree is expected to be submitted to a vote in the Federal Senate on Tuesday (7). After approval in both houses, the federal government intends to issue a provisional measure with the release of extraordinary credit for Rio Grande do Sul.
