Pump house shutdown in Porto Alegre
Porto Alegre City Hall announced the shutdown of pump house 16 due to the risk of electric shock in the area. It is located in the Cidade Baixa and Menino Deus region, in the central region of the capital. Following a request from authorities, residents began to leave the region this Monday (6).
The water in the region of pump house 16 was rising, according to the mayor, to the point of reaching the unit’s electrical panel. “This pump house was turned off due to the shock that people began to have, especially the operator”, explained Mayor Sebastião Melo (MDB), in a press conference on Monday afternoon (6).
Region must be evacuated. In an alert issued hours before the interview, CEEE Equatorial, which manages energy in the city, reported the shutdown of pump house 16. “The water is advancing quickly through the Cidade Baixa and Menino de Deus region. We advise that people affected people should seek a safe place in their family’s home or in our temporary shelters”, says the electricity company.
