247 – Brazilian industrial production registered a growth of 0.9% in March 2024 compared to the previous month, according to data released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) this Friday (3). This is the second consecutive month of increase, after a 0.1% change in February.

Compared to the same period of the previous year, industrial production fell 2.8% in March 2024, interrupting a seven-month sequence of positive results in this metric. In the first three months of 2024, the industrial sector recorded an expansion of 1.9%.

The annual rate, which reflects the growth accumulated over the last 12 months, increased by 0.7% in March, showing a reduction in relation to the February result (1.0%).

Among the activities that contributed to the growth of industrial production, food products (1.0%), textile products (4.5%), printing and reproduction of collections (8.2%) and extractive industries (0. two). %). However, sectors such as motor vehicles, trailers and bodies (-6.0%) and computer equipment, electronic and optical products (-13.3%) recorded the biggest negative impacts.

The analysis by economic categories shows that intermediate goods (1.2%) and semi and non-contained consumer goods (0.9%) were those that recorded positive rates in March 2024. On the other hand, concentrated consumer goods (- 4.2%) and capital goods (-2.8%) recorded negative results.

The quarterly mobile media, which considers the behavior of industrial production over three months, showed stability (0.0%) in the quarter ending in March 2024, interrupting an upward trend that began in February 2023. Among the economic categories, Intermediate goods fell by 0.8%, while capital goods recorded the highest growth (3.5%) in this period.
