Anita released his new album, Funk Generation, this Friday, 26. The album is the singer’s new venture into her international career and has several aspects of funk and electronic music, with songs sung in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

In a press conference held this Friday, the Rio native says that, during the time the album was being created, she was going through a health scare. “I was very sick. I had to be tested for cancer, I was very sick. I thought I was going to die for a while,” she said. “I said: ‘Since I’m going to die, I’m going to make the best album of my life’.”

The singer also explained why she scheduled an international tour for the new album, without shows in Brazil. For her, the national public is not willing to pay the price of the show for a Brazilian artist. “When it’s an international show, everyone wants to pay zillions,” she said.

“We are thinking about how to do [um grande show no Brasil] to happen. It’s one thing to do small shows like we’re doing in other countries. This bigger event requires time and structure, and people don’t really want to pay to go to events like this”, he explained.

Singer says she wants to ‘inspire’

Funk Generation seeks to showcase different funk sounds and expressions of Brazilian culture. According to the singer, she continues to do what she can to avoid Brazilian stereotypes in the international market. “When it’s possible, when a magazine is interested, we ask if they can come to Brazil. I always try to do something like that. And in interviews, I talk about it.”

“The clip Accepted will come with candomblé, the music video Ahí There will be samba schools, if we can get them out. I didn’t just put in the beautiful samba woman, I put in the old guard… for people to look for and be interested in,” she added.

She recalled presentations she gave in an international context, such as in VMA 2023, and talked about taking funk to the world. “There was even Taylor Swift there,” she recalled. “I want to inspire, not only funk artists, but all young people in the community to do what they want.”

“When I started, my friends were being arrested. They were going to jail, solely and exclusively because of the music”, he recalled. “Up until now, I’ve had to get into a lot of fights, just to get this album released.”

According to the artist, at this point in her career, she considers that she no longer has anything to prove. “I’m dying to take a break,” she revealed. “And I think the process [de internacionalização] It’s quite complete. I could pass the baton to someone else to continue the work, because I’m super accomplished. It’s wonderful.”

“I already feel like I’ve accomplished everything I had to accomplish,” he added.
