In a statement, Gol reported that there was “an operational failure” in transporting the animal and said it regretted what happened. The company also stated that the dog received care, but, “unfortunately, shortly after the flight landed in Guarulhos, coming from Fortaleza, we were surprised by the animal’s death.”
Gol also said that he opened an internal investigation to investigate what happened. “The Company is offering all the necessary support to the owner and the investigation of the details of what happened is being carried out with full priority by our team. We sympathize with the suffering of Joca’s owner. We understand his pain and deeply regret the loss of his animal pet.”
The company decided to suspend the sale of the animal transport service for 30 days. The Ministry of Ports and Airports and Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency) will investigate the case.
This is not the first time a pet has been killed during an airline flight. In 2021, a dog of the same breed died on a Latam flight between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and in the same year another of the American Bully breed died while also being transported by Latam on a flight between Guarulhos and Aracaju.
