From Ford’s exit to record investments: what revived the spirits of automakers in Brazil

The main destination of the R$30 billion announced by Stellantis — the largest amount ever announced by a single automaker in the country — will be the development of bio-hybrid technology, a model that combines electrification with flex-fuel engines powered by ethanol.

  • 40 new vehicle models;
  • 8 powertrains (vehicle powertrain).

According to Carlos Tavares, executive director of Stellantis, the company targets mainly middle-class Brazilian customers, its main consumer audience.

The automaker also projects, in total, 10 new vehicles in 2024. In addition to the already launched Fiat Titano and Jeep Compass and Commander with Hurricane engines, the company will have:

  • O Citröen Basaltwhose launch has already been announced;
  • O New Peugeot 2008released this week;
  • It is five other models which will be announced throughout the year.

Investments in South America — and an unprecedented model in Argentina

In addition to the R$30 billion in investments in Brazil, Stellantis informed that it will allocate R$2 billion to Argentina by 2030.

Among the news, the automaker also announced the start of production of the New Peugeot 2008 in El Palomar, Argentina. This will be the first SUV vehicle manufactured by Stellantis in the country.

According to the company, more than US$270 million (R$1.3 billion) will be invested to produce the new model, which will add to the US$320 million (R$1.6 billion) already invested in the industrial transformation of El Palomar and the implementation of the modular CMP platform — the basis for the production of compact models.
