The owner of TikTok must seek an injunction, capable of pausing everything. Therefore, the legal battle could last much longer.

What happened to get to this point?

In March, the House passed a bill that would require ByteDance to sell its U.S. operations to someone other than a “foreign adversary” country.. Otherwise, the app would be banned.

Amid a US aid package for Ukraine and Israel, this was postponed over time. Previously, the company had six months to sell its US operations. Now it is nine months old. And the president can still extend this period for another three months in the case of an agreement.

To protect itself from the risk of being banned, it is estimated that TikTok has spent more than US$1.5 billion on the “Texas Project” in the last three years. It involves a plan to protect (and isolate) data and content from people in the United States from domestic servers – which have no connection to China.
