In a period of 48 hours, twelve occurrences were identified, of which six were recorded in Colatina, one in Rio Bananal, one in São Gabriel da Palha, two in Sooretama and two in Vitória.
According to the Undersecretary of Health Surveillance, Orlei Cardoso, the current situation does not yet constitute an outbreak or epidemic.
“The positivity percentage is at 0.45%, but we will monitor cases with suspicious symptoms that will be sent, by the municipalities, to Lacen”, stated the undersecretary.
“Transmission occurs only through the bite of the infected maruim mosquito, that is, the use of repellent and cleaning around houses, especially in relation to decomposing materials, are the ways to prevent the disease. There is still no fatality recorded for oropouche fever”, he added.

Oropouche Fever is a disease transmitted by ‘Culicoides paraensis’a very small insect, popularly known as “maruim” or “powderfly”.
Symptoms include sudden onset fever, headache, myalgia (muscle pain) and arthralgia (joint pain). Dizziness, retroocular pain, chills, photophobia, nausea and vomiting are also reported.
The duration is 2 to 7 days, with benign evolution and no sequelae, even in the most severe cases. However, vector bites tend to cause a lot of discomfort and allergic reactions.
There is no specific treatment for the disease. Patients must remain at rest, with symptomatic treatment and medical monitoring.
