IJF employee shot in attack that killed and decapitated kitchen attendant undergoes surgery but is OK – Security

Carlos Sérgio Matos de Queiroz, 63 years old, victim shot in the attack recorded at the Dr. José Frota Institute (IJF) this Tuesday (23), had to undergo a emergency surgery. He has worked for 41 years in the hospital cafeteria, precisely where Francisco Aurélio Rodrigues de Lima, aged 41, killed and beheaded the cupbearer Francisco Mizael Souza da Silva. The criminal has already been found and arrested.

Family members of Sérgio, who was shot in the arm, found out about the barbaric crime through the press and, since then, have been apprehensive, waiting for news from the employee, which arrived via a phone call from the unit’s social worker.

“We saw from the reports [o crime] and was apprehensive. Then lunch, after [a história] it was in the newspaper and everything, the hospital social worker called us and said that he [Sérgio] he had been hit and had to go into surgery, but he was fine, talking”, recalls the victim’s son, professor Felipe Queiroz, 36.

According to Felipe, the father was transferred this Wednesday (24) to the IJF infirmary and is well, stable, with the possibility of being discharged this week. “He was going to leave a bottle of coffee in the cafeteria when he saw people running. A man passed him asking for help, who was the victim already asking for help, and behind came the man [Francisco Aurélio] already shooting. The second shot hit my father’s arm, hit the artery, and, immediately, my father turned around. As he has worked there for a long time, he already knew everything about the hospital, so he turned around and went straight to looking for help”, says Felipe.

Carlos did not witness the barbaric crime that later happened to his co-worker. “I don’t know if he already knows now, but, until yesterday, he wasn’t even aware of the proportion this case had taken, the barbarities”, shares the son.

Family denounces ‘great irresponsibility of the hospital’

According to Felipe, Sérgio’s family will contact the Union of Public Servants and Employees of the Municipality of Fortaleza (Sindifort) in search of the worker’s rights.

“It is highly irresponsible on the part of the hospital. It is something that could have been avoided if the hospital had worked properly in terms of security, input control. Everyone says, this is already well known, that visits are very bureaucratic, but, suddenly, a man like that manages to enter with a backpack, with a gun, and it could have been an even greater tragedy if the murderer had wanted to kill everyone . He would have succeeded, no one would have drawn”, criticized the professor.

Felipe also stated that all documentation of his father’s hospitalization will be shown to Sindifort and the union’s lawyer, so that action can be taken.

‘We will protect and support the server’s rights’

According to Ana Miranda, an IJF employee who sits on Sindifort’s board of directors, the entity is following the case and seeks to guarantee the rights of all employees affected by the tragedy, from the two direct victims — Sérgio and Mizael — to all the others who whether or not they work in the cafeteria, the sector that was the scene of the attack.

“We, as an entity, will protect and support the rights of the injured employee [Sérgio]. We will see everything we can do, both administratively and legally”, guaranteed the director.

Furthermore, according to Miranda, institutional support is required from the City of Fortaleza, responsible for the IJF. “A demand of this magnitude doesn’t just impact the group that was there at the time. It impacts the emotions of all employees and patients and companions”, she says. “Being on a stretcher, in a hospital bed, unable to walk, run, and hearing gunshots… It was really shocking. The atmosphere in the hospital is not good. Everywhere we look, there are people praying,” he added.

Another demand made by Sindifort to the municipal Executive concerns a “satisfactory program” of preventive security and increased security in the hospital unit.
