The actor Giancarlo Esposito gave details of the history and production of Megalopolisthe new film by Francis Ford Coppoladuring his stay at CCXP MX. The artist also confirmed that he will play the mayor of New York in the plot, which he compares to Roman myths.
“Francis is an intelligent man. He deals with mythology and myth, he knows all the legends of Greek scholars and Roman history”explained Esposito during his participation on the Omelette Stage of the event last Saturday (4).
“Megalopolis is a story set in contemporary times, but set in a Roman fable. In fact, not a fable, but the story of Cicero and Caesar. Caesar tried to take over the Roman Empire six times. He tried to coup the council, but he was rejected and defeated six times. And most of it started with words, but when they didn’t work anymore, he tried physically.
The artist also spoke about his character in the film, the mayor. “He’s old school and it was interesting to work with Francis because the character was taken from himself. Part of me was in love with this version of how he sees himself.”said on stage.
Giancarlo Esposito even ventured a philosophical definition for the project, which has been developed by Coppola for decades: “The mind is really complicated, it will convince you that it is a thing, but you are not that thing. Megalopolis is a great film and it has a lot of what is Francis’s gift to us. It is a gift to a new world and the new The world is not out there, but it is right here inside us”.
