In one place, the event Aeromosquito Show — Science and Aeronautics Fair brings countless activities for lovers of scouting, technology and aeronautics. However, the fun goes much further. The project conceived by Grupo Escoteiro do Ar Salgado — 9° DF brings educational actions about traffic, teachings about the cerrado, games and games. For aviation lovers, a model of the 14-bis — a plane built by Brazilian inventor Alberto Santos Dumont —, made in a similar way to the original by Grupo Escoteiro Caio Martins, will be available for viewing.

This Saturday’s program (20/8) is open to the general public. On Sunday (21/8), it will be exclusive to scouts. To enter the event, just bring 1 kilo of non-perishable food. Visitors will be able to build rockets and launch them using pet bottles and watch a session at the planetarium. Zipline games and a climbing wall are also waiting for the bravest.

According to the event’s organizer, Alexandra da Costa, 48, the idea came up years ago, when some scouts got together to show each other what they learned in the science and aeronautics camps. With that, the group decided to build something that would last longer and contemplate the presence of colleagues from other cities and institutions that work with teaching, research and aviation. “Instead of having a school-style science fair, we held our fair inside a Scout camp,” she explains.

The name of the project is a tribute to the nickname by which the scouts who participated in the model airplane workshop, in the late 1990s and early 2000s, were called: mosquitoes.

Inaiara Saraiva de Souza, 41, is head of the Senior Troop Aporé of the Caio Martins Scout Group — 6th DF. The love for Scouting began a decade ago. When taking her son, who was 11 years old at the time, to a camp, she couldn’t stand it and got excited to participate. Even today, according to her, fun is guaranteed. “Currently, I am with my son, in the movement, as an adult volunteer, in addition to my father and three more nephews. The method of scouting education is charming”, highlights the nursing technician.

And thanks to the family’s effort, they managed to build the 14-bis model, which measures approximately 4×3 meters. For the execution of the project, they used bamboo, TNT, barbed wire and bicycle wheels. Many of the materials used in the original were made in 1906.

Inaiara’s niece and scout, Deborah Souza, 19, is excited for the event to start soon. With preparations in full swing, the young woman, along with her groupmates, gives the final touches to welcome the public. “Some are setting up camps, setting up tents and others are organizing the food we brought,” details the library science student, who became interested in Scouting in 2013.

And after a year, Ana Clara Fernandes, 19, was invited by her friend Deborah to get to know Scouting. Since then, she has acquired values she didn’t know. “I got out of my comfort zone with activities that were both fun and different from my daily life”, she comments.
