The Fundação Hemocentro de Brasília (FHB) reinforced, this Wednesday (08), its request to the population to donate blood. Currently, the Hemocentro operates with only 41% of the stock considered ideal to serve the entire public network in the Federal District.

To schedule an appointment, simply access the website Agenda DF – Appointment Service of the Federal District – Fundação Hemocentro de Brasília, or call 160, option 2. At this time, the foundation has given priority to donors of blood types O negative and A negative, until the 20th of this month. However, everyone is welcome.

O positive, O negative, B positive, A positive, A negative blood supplies are critical. Types B negative and AB negative are low. Only the positive AB type is regular.

“Blood is irreplaceable, and we really need the population in this wave of solidarity, which is what this gesture actually represents. We have 41% of the adequate level of strategic inventory and, until the end of last week, we had 36%. We have increased, but it is still a critical level. We repeatedly appeal to the population to donate and contribute to the Hemocentro and, primarily, to the patients in the public network who need us”, asks the Donor Attraction Manager at the Hemocentro Foundation, Kelly Barbi.

To maintain a safe stock, the Hemocentro set a target of 180 donations daily. In the first two months of the year, the average remained at 161. Then, in March and April, the foundation reached an average of 180 collections per day.

Amid the drop in donations and due to the dengue epidemic and the increase in the number of transfusions carried out in hospitals in the Federal District, stocks were compromised, which reinforces the need for the population to attend the Blood Center.

“Our goal is at least 180 daily donations. We have achieved a higher average, around 200, but it is precisely because of the appeal of some time. But we need to reinforce that the demand for transfusions has also increased. Surgeries of all kinds and we are still experiencing the great impact of dengue. The disease led to many platelet transfusions and affected us doubly”, details Kelly Barbi.

Donate blood

To donate blood, you must be between 16 and 69 years old, weigh more than 51 kg and be healthy. Anyone who has undergone surgery, endoscopic examination or has recently become ill, however, should consult the Hemocentro website to find out if they are eligible to donate blood.

In case of dengue fever, it is necessary to wait 30 days after the end of symptoms to apply for blood donation. For those who had dengue hemorrhagic fever, the deadline is six months. If you have had sexual contact with people who have dengue fever in the last 30 days, you must wait 30 days since your last relationship to donate blood.

Anyone who has had the flu must wait 15 days after symptoms disappear before they can donate blood. Anyone who has had Covid-19 should wait ten days after symptoms have stopped, as long as there are no after-effects. If asymptomatic, the period is counted from the date of test collection.
