Rural producers in the Acre and other regions of Brazil received good news: those affected by natural disasters or the drop in agricultural prices now have the opportunity to renegotiate their rural credit debts for investments. The measure, the result of a proposal developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) together with the Ministry of Finance (MF) and approved by National Monetary Council (CMN) in March, establishes that farmers have up to May 31st to renegotiate your debts.

This resolution is a response to the negative impact of climate behavior on the 2023/2024 harvest, which harmed productivity in specific areas, and the drop in prices on the global market. The renegotiation covers investment operations with installments due in 2024, and may affect up to R$20.8 billion in equalized resources, R$6.3 billion in resources from constitutional funds and R$ 1.1 billion in mandatory resources.

If all eligible installments are extended, the total estimated cost is R$3.2 billiondistributed between 2024 and 2030. Half of this amount will be allocated to family farming and the other half to business agriculture. This cost will be offset by the amounts allocated to equalizing rates for the 2024/2025 harvest plans.

The impacted states and productive activities include the production of soy, corn It is meat cattle farming in states such as Goiás, Mato Grosso, São Paulo, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Rondônia, Roraima, Pará, Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Tocantins and Mato Grosso do Sul, in addition to dairy cattle farming in Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro.

To qualify for renegotiation, financing must be supported by programs such as National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf)O National Support Program for Medium Rural Producers (Pronamp)other rural investment programs in the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), and through the rural investment lines of constitutional funds. This is a window of opportunity for farmers to adjust their finances and continue contributing to the country’s agricultural sector.
