The Paraná General Health Ombudsman’s Office distributed 220 ballot boxes to record manifestations (complaints, suggestions, information, complaints, requests or compliments) from users of the State’s Unified Health System (SUS). The acquisition of equipment was carried out by the State Department of Health (Sesa), at a total cost of R$25,500 to expand the number of health services, including regional ones, health consortiums, basic units and hospitals with personalized boxes.

The purpose of the ballot boxes is to provide citizens with another tool to express their views on the care provided in the unit they are in. The Ombudsman’s Office also receives in-person manifestations, by telephone: 0800 644 44 14, WhatsApp: (41) 3330-4414, letters and Sesa website. These contacts are formalized in Sesa Resolution No. 872/2022, which ensures the right of users to participate in public health management.

The first SUS ombudsman at the Ministry of Health, the Secretary of State for Health, Beto Preto, said that it is necessary to provide, facilitate and reinforce the use of means for the population to act together in the construction of public health policies. “The Ombudsman’s Office has this welcoming function within the SUS, bringing users closer to health services,” he stated.

Manifestations are received daily in regionalized ombudsman offices with more than 500 ombudsmen in the 399 municipalities of the State and registered in the State’s Integrated System for Ombudsman Management (SIGO) and in the OuvidorSUS system, of the Ministry of Health. Since the state system was implemented in 2011, Paraná has already registered 28.3 thousand demonstrations using the ballot boxes. Last year, the General Health Ombudsman’s Office registered 63,500 manifestations, 5,342 of which through the ballot box. This year, the number is already 26,060 overall, with 1,782 at the polls.
