SSPDS joins Working Group against LGBTphobia in stadiums

The Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (SSPDS) is one of the bodies participating in the Working Group (GT) against LGBTphobia in stadiums, launched this Tuesday (07), in a ceremony at Arena Castelão, in Fortaleza. The group was established through Decree No. 35,937, of April 12, 2024, through a partnership between the Secretariat for Diversity (Sediv), Secretariat for Sport (Sesporte) and around 22 allied bodies.

Participating in the GT, representing the SSPDS: the Executive Secretary for Integrated and Strategic Actions of the SSPDS, Sérgio Pereira dos Santos; the delegate of the Civil Police of the State of Ceará (PCCE), Illa Timbó, head of the Police Station for the Repression of Crimes due to Racial, Religious Discrimination or Sexual Orientation (Decrim); and the lieutenant colonel commander of the Community Prevention and Support Command (Copac) of the Ceará Military Police (PMCE). Each representative will have an alternate.

“It is very important to discuss and think about alternatives to combat discrimination in stadiums. Football is a sport that transforms lives and prejudice has no place in this space. The SSPDS is present to collaborate, with its responsibilities and expertise, in the fight against intolerance”, said the executive secretary of the SSPDS, Sérgio Pereira dos Santos.

The ceremony was attended by the National Secretary for the Rights of the LGBTQIA+ Population, Symmy Larrat. To mark the launch, Arena Castelão was lit up in rainbow colors.

The GT will train professionals who work in stadiums to prevent and identify situations of LGBTphobia, in addition to dialoguing with teams, organized fans and research institutions.
