Son of doctors, aged 5, dies from suspected dengue fever in Teresina and causes commotion

Student Rafael Lira Matias, aged five, died this Tuesday (07) with suspected dengue fever in Teresina. The boy is the son of pediatrician Laysa Geovanna Lira and urologist Ricardo Matias. The child was hospitalized with dengue symptoms in a private hospital.

The main suspicion of the cause of death is dengue, but it will only be confirmed after the results of the test collected from the child and sent to the Central Public Health Laboratory of Piauí (LACEN/PI).

Rafinha’s wake, as he was known, took place this morning, at Pax União, on Avenida Miguel Rosa. The burial took place in the morning. The child’s death caused a strong commotion among parents, doctors and the school community. He was the youngest son of the doctor couple.

Rafinha studied in the Children’s II class at Instituto Dom Barreto. The school released a note of condolence lamenting the student’s untimely death and informing that classes were suspended this morning for the Infant II classes at the center unit.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved student Rafael Lira Matias, from Infantil II – center unit. The wake will take place at Pax União, Espaço Estrela, until 9am this Wednesday.

The entire community is in mourning, sharing the pain of their families at such a sudden departure.

To protect ourselves in prayers, tomorrow’s activities (5/8/2024) for Children II classes – center unit are suspended.

The celebrations related to Mother’s Day, initially scheduled for the 8th, 9th and 10/5/2024, were postponed until next week.

May this loss, as difficult as it is unexpected, be supported by the faith that feeds and moves us and that, as a Community, we can be support for the family of our little and dear student.
