Between yesterday and this Wednesday, 8th, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) obtained donations to send to Rio Grande do Sul (RS).

Some of the objects have already been sent. The transport is being carried out by military personnel from the Brazilian Air Force.

The STF collected water, mattresses, bedding, blankets, diapers, animal feed, basic food baskets and other utensils.

Tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul

Due to the heavy rains, to date, 1.4 million people have been affected in 417 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul. Of these, 163 thousand are homeless and 66 thousand are in public shelters. There are still 128 missing and 372 injured.

Earlier, the state governor, Eduardo Leite, reported that, after a phone call from the president of the STF, Luís Roberto Barroso, he learned that the Judiciary had allocated R$60 million to help RS recover from the tragedy.

“These are resources from pecuniary penalties and fines that are being transferred directly to the State Civil Defense,” said Leite. “Rio Grande do Sul is grateful for this important support, which will be used in a responsible and transparent manner by the government.”
