Hashioka asks IBGE to improve data related to the Japanese Community in MS

-

This Tuesday (7/5), state deputy Roberto Hashioka visited the State Superintendent of IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), Mário Alexandre de Pinna Frazeto, together with the Nipo, Okinawa and Baseball associations, with the aim to gather and improve data related to the Japanese immigrant population in Mato Grosso do Sul – the third largest Japanese colony in Brazil and the second largest Okinawan colony.

During the meeting, Hashioka highlighted the historical-cultural and commercial relations between Mato Grosso do Sul and Japan and the contributions made by the Japanese and their descendants in the State’s development process. “I have made my mandate available to this community, which is one of the largest in the country and has a great presence in the development of MS. Through IBGE, we want to have access and improve existing data, aiming to strengthen existing and future relationships, and in a special way, for a historical-cultural survey. With this dialogue between institutions, we want to find ways to do this efficiently”, he reinforced.

“Initially, the idea of creating a registry was suggested, because we want to discover all the communities present in MS. So, it would be work to quantify and qualify the ethnicities present. The largest community, for example, is in Campo Grande. Next comes Grande Dourados. Then, Nova Andradina and Naviraí. So, we thought about a partnership with IBGE to make this project viable based on reliable data and sources”, says the state deputy.

Superintendent Frazeto, at the time, highlighted that this is an important identification work. “The Japanese community in Mato Grosso do Sul is very important to the culture of our State. The data we make available, at the moment, concerns quantification by cities, but we can study improvements, even with other bodies, such as the Ministry of Culture”, he highlighted.

On behalf of the organizations, the president Maria Leny Adania de Sylos was present for the Nipo Association; the Cultural, Sports and Social vice-president, Claudio Sussumu Oikawa; the vice-president of Education, Jorge Gonda; the Administrative Vice President, Nilson Tamotsu Aguena; and the vice-president of Patrimonial, Helvio Higa. Representing the Okinawa de Campo Grande Association, vice-president Nelson Hokama. And representing the Campo-Grandense Baseball Association, president Octacílio Sakai Júnior – Toshio.
