One version of the fake message says: “SOS RS. The state Treasury Department is prohibiting humanitarian aid from entering!”

The chief secretary of the Civil House of the government of Rio Grande do Sul, Artur Lemos, states that the information that donations are being withheld at tax collection stations is false. “No, they’re not,” he says. “Donations are free and there are no taxes charged,” he adds. See what he says:

Military Brigade and PRF also deny

“We are not preventing the circulation of any kind of food for donation”, says Colonel Douglas Soares, deputy general commander of the Military Brigade. “We are not inspecting invoices,” he says.

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) states that it is not blocking the traffic of vehicles with donations. “It is a lie that we are blocking the transit of vehicles with donations due to lack of invoice or that we are collecting trailers with jet skis due to the owner’s lack of license”, said the organization on the social network X.

A company that had one of its vehicles filmed while it was detained at a state revenue barrier in Torres with donations destined for the homeless explained in a statement that the vehicle continued its journey to its final destination, delivering the supplies to those in need during the early hours of the morning. “At the checkpoint, the vehicle was stopped due to being overweight, but was released without receiving any notification or fine”, he says.
