More than 930 thousand small businesses were opened in Minas Gerais from 2022 to 2024, of which 75% are individual microentrepreneurs (MEI), according to data from the Federal Revenue. In the first three months of this year alone, almost 90 thousand enterprises that earn up to R$81 thousand per year were formalized across the state. With the aim of guiding and training those who want to become microentrepreneurs, Sebrae Minas promotes MEI Week from May 20th to 24th, with hundreds of free online and in-person activities in Minas Gerais. Registration is limited and the schedule is available at https://sebraemg.com.br/mei.
During the five days of programming, participants will have access to simultaneous and useful workshops and content in the entrepreneur’s daily life, such as advantages of formalization, marketing, management, finance, obligations with the Federal Revenue Service, issuance of invoices, credit and innovation , between others.
Those interested in becoming individual microentrepreneurs can take advantage of the moment to formalize quickly and free of charge. To have access to this service, the entrepreneur must register, days in advance, on the GOV.br website. Other personal documents required for formalization are identity card, CPF and proof of company or residence address. For those who are already formalized, they will also be able to negotiate the payment of outstanding debts at the Federal Revenue, print the Monthly Collection Documents (DAS-SIMEI).
Formalization
To be a MEI, it is necessary to have an annual turnover of up to R$81 thousand, not have a partner or branches, work alone or have at most one employee (who receives the category’s minimum wage or minimum wage) and work in one of the permitted occupations. Among the advantages are: access to credit lines with more attractive conditions, participation in tenders, right to disability retirement, sickness benefit, maternity salary, retirement based on age and issuance of an invoice.
Sebrae Play
In addition to MEI Week, entrepreneurs have Sebrae Play available, a platform that provides courses and content for individual micro-entrepreneurs on entrepreneurship, strategy and management, finance, franchising, innovation and technology, laws and taxes, leadership and people, digital marketing, startups and sales.
The tool, which can be accessed from any electronic device, was created in 2022 and has already made more than 1,000 content available to its users who want to open or expand a business.
