The crisis in Rio Grande do Sul due to historic flooding is impacting agricultural production in Rio Grande do Sul, which could result in significant increases in the prices of some products in supermarkets in Acre.
The state Supermarkets Association (ASAS) already predicts an increase in prices for at least three types of products in the coming days. This increase could trigger a domino effect, also affecting other products made with the affected raw materials.
According to ASAS, dairy product categories, which include yogurts, cottage cheese, cheeses and other dairy products, are subject to considerable price increases. Furthermore, products made with wheat, as Rio Grande do Sul is a large national producer of the grain, may also suffer a price increase, affecting items such as bread.

Finally, the price of rice, responsible for making up the main dish for most Acreans along with beans, must also be readjusted. Although most of the rice consumed in Acre is produced in Mato Grosso, the increase in demand from states that normally purchase from Rio Grande do Sul should impact prices.
