Athlete Adriana Gonçalves, from União dos Palmares, in Alagoas, was one of the highlights of the 6th edition of the União Médica Half Marathon, held last Sunday, May 5th, in Feira de Santana, Bahia. Adriana won 3rd place in the female category.

The event, which established itself as one of the main street races in the North/Northeast of Brazil, attracted both professional and amateur athletes from several municipalities in Bahia and other states. The main route was 21 km long, starting and finishing on Avenida Getúlio Vargas, in front of the Feira de Santana City Hall square.

The structure of the event was designed to optimize the athletes’ performance, offering hydration, a flat course, and pacers to help maintain the pace. According to Ricardo Cedraz, from the RG+ organization, the União Médica Half Marathon is a traditional event on the Bahia calendar and a mega structure is set up for the event.

Around 30% of the 1,500 athletes who participated are from the capital and cities in the interior, which also contributes to the local economy, with the occupancy of hotels and increased consumption in restaurants and bars.

In addition to Adriana, the event also featured athlete João Marcos, from São Cristóvão, in Sergipe, who, like her, is also sponsored by the Santo Antônio Foundation, and reached 2nd place in the men’s category.

The trophies received by both athletes were donated to the Foundation’s collection, as a form of gratitude for the support received.

The competition, authorized by the Bahia Athletics Federation, awarded cash prizes and trophies to the top five in each category.
