The tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul has already left 85 people dead, according to a Civil Defense bulletin released late this Monday afternoon (6). Four more deaths are under investigation to determine the cause, that is, whether they were caused by the floods that hit the state.
Authorities report 339 injured, 134 missing and more than 201,000 people are away from home, 153,824 of whom are homeless and 47,676 in public shelters.
The rains, which caused flooding in most of the state, have already affected 1,178,226 people from Rio Grande do Sul in some way. The number of municipalities rose to 385.
The federal government decided to bring forward the release of R$580 million in individual parliamentary amendments for cities in Rio Grande do Sul. Of the total, R$538 million must be allocated to public health actions.
Airport flooded
Salgado Filho International Airport, in Porto Alegre, will remain closed indefinitely, with all operations suspended. The water reached the escalators inside the building.
Government websites and services down
The government of Rio Grande do Sul announced this Monday (6) that it will shut down the state data processing system.
