It is not true that Sefaz (Secretariat of Finance) of the government of Rio Grande do Sul is demanding an invoice and preventing the entry of trucks with supplies donated to flood victims in the state, as claimed by publications on the networks. In a statement, the secretariat denied that vehicles were being detained at tax stations.

Publications with misleading content had accumulated more than 68,000 likes on Instagram by the beginning of this Monday afternoon (6) and hundreds of shares on Facebook. Pieces with false claims also circulate on WhatsApp, a platform where it is not possible to estimate the reach of the content (talk to Fátima).

Unbelievable! Pablo Marçal confirms that the State Finance Department is blocking donation trucks due to lack of invoice.

Publications on the networks lie when they state that trucks with donations for the population affected by the rains in Rio Grande do Sul are being stopped at tax stations at the behest of the state government’s Finance Department. According to these posts, vehicles are being blocked for not presenting invoices for donations. But none of that is true.

The false content was published in several versions. In one of them, coach Pablo Marçal, who has more than 12.7 million followers on social media, reinforces the lie.

Sefaz-RS, in a note published on its website, stated that vehicles with donations for those affected by the floods are not being stopped on the roads and that it has suspended inspection to “facilitate the arrival of help to people in vulnerable and at-risk situations” .

The chief secretary of the Rio Grande do Sul Civil House, Artur Lemos, used the secretariat and state government networks to deny the false content. See below.

The State Secretariat for Finance of Santa Catarina also commented. In a note, Sefaz-SC clarified “that there is no inspection action that prevents the transport of donations to municipalities affected by the rains in Rio Grande do Sul”.

The rains and floods in Rio Grande do Sul have left 83 people dead so far, and 111 people are still missing. In total, 345 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul are being affected by the storms, which affect more than 850 thousand people. The latest information shows that there are at least 19,368 homeless and 276 injured in the region.

This is not the first time that climate tragedies have been used to create fake news and generate panic among the population. In September 2023, Rio Grande do Sul was hit by an extratropical cyclone and fake pieces began to circulate out of context.

Other side. To the Facts Marçal was contacted by email in the early afternoon of this Monday (6) so that he could comment on the check, but there was no response until the publication of the text.
