According to the latest epidemiological bulletin from the State Department of Health (SES-MT), released on April 25, Mato Grosso has already surpassed more than 16 thousand cases of dengue and 12 confirmed deaths in just four months. In view of this scenario, it is necessary to adopt some protective measures, as around 80% of breeding sites are in residential environments.

This year, Brazil is experiencing a dengue outbreak and, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), it could be the worst in history in Latin America. At the same time, there is a delay in implementing the goals of universal basic sanitation, an action that can reduce mosquito proliferation.

According to the latest SES bulletin, Mato Grosso registered 22,932 suspected cases of dengue and 31,773 notifications. The confirmed cases total 16,724 and 12 deaths in 2024.

According to the Info Dengue bulletin from the Fiocruz Institute, between April 21st and 28th, there were 1,387 notifications, mainly among people aged 10 to 19. The bulletin also details that three municipalities are experiencing strong transmission of the disease, which are: Sorriso with 331 cases; Nova Mutum with 167 cases; and Campo Verde with 144.

The Ministry of Health made the new Qdenga vaccine available to the state last Thursday (02). There were 32 thousand doses of the vaccine for 35 municipalities and the expectation is that Mato Grosso will receive another 99 thousand doses in the coming weeks. Initially, this first shipment will be for ages 10 to 14.

Despite the achievement, it is necessary that dengue fever care is redoubled, as according to the Secretary of State for Health, Gilberto Figueiredo, around 80% of breeding sites are in residential environments. “We are pleased to receive this first shipment of the dengue vaccine. We ask parents who live in the 35 municipalities listed by the Ministry of Health to take their children aged 10 to 14 to be vaccinated, as this is the group that should get the vaccine now. And the main thing: don’t forget to take care against the dengue mosquito, as around 80% of breeding sites are in residential environments”, advises the secretary.

NECESSARY CARE
The main way to prevent dengue is to reduce mosquito infestation, the insect responsible for transmitting the virus that causes the disease. To achieve this, it is essential to eliminate mosquito breeding sites whenever possible. Below are some recommendations:

Keep reservoirs or water tanks covered with lids, screens or covers, preventing mosquitoes from depositing their eggs in them;

Avoid standing water in tires, cans, empty bottles or gutters;

Regularly clean the water tank.

And finally, using repellent is also a way to prevent bites by the mosquito that transmits dengue fever.

In cases of suspected dengue fever, it is recommended not to self-medicate, hydrate, rest and seek a healthcare facility. The main symptoms of dengue are: fever; headache; body ache; redness and spots on the skin; pain behind the eyes; nausea and vomiting and diarrhea. Take cover.
