A team of 10 agents from the Air Police Service of the Special Resources Coordination (Saer/Core), from the State Secretariat of Civil Police was sent by the government of Rio de Janeiro to assist in the search and rescue of victims of the rains in Rio Grande do Sul.

The police officers arrived in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, on Sunday afternoon (5), in an AW169 helicopter, from the RJ Civil Police Secretariat.

In addition to the dead, there are 105 missing and 175 injured people. Civil Defense has 134.3 thousand people away from home, 18.4 thousand in shelters and 115.8 thousand homeless, who receive shelter in the homes of family or friends. In total, 341 of the state’s 496 municipalities recorded some type of problem, affecting 844,000 people.

The twin-engine aircraft, sent by the RJ Civil Police, operates using instruments, including at night. It has the capacity to carry eight passengers and two pilots.

The team sent to the south of the country specializes in rescue in natural disasters and rescue at heights and in difficult-to-access places. Support for the operation in Rio Grande do Sul was an offer from governor Cláudio Castro to the governor of Rio Grande Sul, Eduardo Leite.

The RJ Civil Police Secretariat will also send a multidisciplinary team of technical-scientific expertise to the south to help with the identification service. The innovation of performance techniques resulted in the creation of the institution’s DVI protocol, which in free translation means Disaster Victim Identification.

“Our experts are already available and should leave for the mission soon. The first to arrive were the police officers from Saer/Core with our aircraft 05 and equipment to reinforce the work in the areas affected by the rains”, said the Secretary of Police Civil, Marcus Amim.
