Two people who died after a crash between trucks on a stretch of BR-226, in the northern region of the state, are still at the Center of the Legal Medical Institute (IML) in Tocantinópolis. Teams are still waiting for relatives.
The accident happened around 10am on Friday (4), between the municipalities of Darcinópolis and Palmeiras do Tocantins, in the north of the state. Traffic had to be closed on half a lane. The stretch was only fully reopened around 8pm on Friday, according to the Federal Highway Police (PRF).
The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported that the bodies underwent an autopsy and until this Saturday morning (4), the teams were waiting for possible family members.
Accident on BR-226 left people dead and injured
The head-on collision involved two trucks and images published on social media showed the two vehicles on the sides of the highway. There were also some drums scattered around, as well as a substance spilled on the track.
One of the trucks was completely destroyed. The man and a woman were trapped in the wreckage.
In addition to the deaths, one person was seriously injured and was rescued by fire teams from the city of Estreito, in Maranhão, which was closer.
