Emater doubles target for rural credit in the municipality of Alenquer in relation to 2023

ALENQUER – In 2024, the local office of the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the State of Pará (Emater) in Alenquer, in Lower Amazonas, intends to increase the number of rural credit contracted by more than 150%, compared to 2023. In recent In the years since Emater, the municipality has stood out in the region as a major articulator of public policy for financing family farming activities.

In the first quarter alone, more than R$3 million has already reached the hands of 56 producers from Alenquer, through Emater projects, partnership with the City Hall and release from Banco da Amazônia (Basa), Banco do Brasil (BB) and Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF). The initial balance represents almost half of what was achieved last year: just over R$6 and a half million.

According to the head of Emater’s local office in Alenquer, agricultural technician Waldomiro Yared, the work will be worth at least R$15 million by December.

In addition to traditional support for beef cattle farming, the socioeconomic engine of family farming there, Emater has expanded its operations in the planting of Tahiti lemons, in the cassava production chain and in artisanal fishing.

In the fishing sector, for example, there is an immediate demand for resources for 150 families, compared to line B of the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf).

“It is a union of tools and efforts. It is worth mentioning that City Hall is unique in terms of the logistics of our process. We are proof that institutional partnerships are truly effective for public policies in the agricultural and land sector”, says Yared.

Served by Emater since 2020, 30-year-old cattle farmer Valdinei Viana manages the second consecutive rural credit received for investment on the 27 hectares of Fazenda Deus-Proverá, in Ramal do Coamba: the first through Basa and the current one through Banco do Brasil (BB).

With the money, it has been possible to increase the number and improve the genetics of the herd of 48 cattle, mostly Nelore.

“It’s very interesting, and I say that here on my property, Fazenda Deus-Proverá, God really provides: it’s me, God and Emater together, making our history of working in the field worth it, because today I am sure of profit in my business”, he says.
