Unimed negotiates acquisition of the century-old Hospital Santa Catarina, in Blumenau

A memorandum of understanding was approved this Friday

The Unimed group, from Blumenau, is negotiating the purchase of the century-old Hospital Santa Catarina, located on Rua Amazonas. The note informing the negotiations and initiating the possible acquisition was released in the early evening of this Friday, 3rd.

A non-binding memorandum of understanding was approved along with the release of the document. According to the note, the boards and councils of the two institutions were already discussing the economic, financial and operational terms.

With these meetings, the boards reached an understanding about a possible acquisition of HSC by Unimed. The boards’ main concern is to find a model that ensures the “quality and integrity of the health system in Blumenau and the region”.

Next steps

The next step will be to submit the terms agreed between the institutions to the general assemblies of Unimed and CEB/UPL, bodies that have the power to decide whether or not to carry out the operation.

The operation is confidential and, because of this, economic, financial and operational data will not be disclosed to the market in general.

The operation will take place in May and, according to them, “represents the best alternative for maintaining the current structures and advancing the further development of the health service in Blumenau”.

Unimed has HSC Blumenau as its main partner and represents more than 80% of the services provided monthly by the aforementioned hospital.
