Brazil beats Austria and continues in the 3×3 women’s basketball Pre-Olympic

After suffering a setback in the debut of the 3×3 Basketball Pre-Olympic, the women’s team defeated Austria 21-11 in the second game this Friday (3) and was just one victory away from qualifying for the semi-finals of the tournament, in Utsunomiya ( Japan). The Brazilians return to the court this Saturday (4), for a decisive duel against the Japanese hosts, starting at 7:20 am (Brasília time). Only the tournament champion team will go to Paris.

In the debut duel, the team fought fiercely against Germany. The opponents opened up a five-point lead, but the Brazilians recovered and tied at 15-15 in normal time. However, in extra time, they lost 17-16.

In the following game against Austria, the story was different. Brazil exuded confidence from start to finish, sealing the 21-11 victory. The country’s top scorer was center Clarissa Santos, with eight points. The athlete represented Brazil at the London 2012 and Rio 2026 Games, when the 5×5 version of basketball was still in force.

Brazil bids farewell to the men’s spot

After losing the first two matches of the Pre-Olympic, the men’s team, fourth in the 2023 World Cup, said goodbye to its chances of qualifying for Paris. In their debut, the Brazilians were beaten by the Lithuanians 21 to 14. In the next game, Brazil played a balanced duel against Puerto Rico. With less than three minutes to go, the opponents took control of the game and sealed the victory 21-19.

Given the other results – the Netherlands’ triumphs over Puerto Rico (21 to 16) and Lithuania (21 to 20) – the Brazilian team said goodbye to the fight for an Olympic spot. The country plays the last game of the table, against the Netherlands, at 3:30 am this Saturday (5).
