Umbanda terreiro is the target of fire in Vila Velha

An Umbanda terreiro was the target of a fire on Thursday night (2). The terreiro of the Umbanda Aprendizes do Amor Group is in Santa Paula I, Vila Velha, in Greater Vitória. The group still does not know whether the fire was intentional (religious racism) or an accident.

On social media, members of the space showed images of the area affected by the fire. It is suspected that the attack was motivated by religious racism – intolerance against religions of African origin.

Babá Alexandre de Ossaim, who is one of the group’s leaders, revealed that the sacred part of the terreiro was not affected, but that the flames consumed an area used for a social project. Alexandre also stated that he had already been receiving threats.

In the video, it is possible to see that clay vases, candles and other materials used in the tours and celebrations were destroyed. A huge loss, as the fire also affected the furniture. A TV Gazeta was at the scene this Friday morning and saw the fire damage up close.

Alexandre also revealed that some members of the house needed to be medicated after being left in a state of shock by what happened. He stated that the Public Ministry of Espírito Santo (MPES) is already aware of the case and that they are also committed to human rights, religiosity and racism organizations.

The entire area of ​​the yard was isolated for examination.

The Civil Police advised victims of this type of crime to register the occurrences at any police station, in order to identify the suspects and apply the appropriate punishment. Hotline 181 is a tool for the population to help the police, providing information that could lead to the arrest of criminals. He also said that if the crime was registered by the victim at a police station, it will be investigated by the Police District where the incident occurred.
