“I hope that this technology is propagated in all States”, says Marcos Pontes about Vigia Mais MT

Senator Marcos Pontes, an officer in the Brazilian Air Force, the first Brazilian astronaut on a space mission and former minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, defended, during a visit to Cuiabá, the implementation of the Vigia Mais MT program throughout the country. Yesterday (2), he got to know the tool presented by the state secretary of Public Security, Colonel César Roveri.

Pontes had access to the control center of the Integrated Public Security Operations Center (Ciosp), where images from Vigia Mais cameras already installed in 120 cities arrive.

“I hope that this technology that is benefiting the population of Mato Grosso will be propagated in all states. Congratulations to the State Government and Sesp for implementing the program and, in particular, for understanding how much difference technology can make at the end, in the services provided to citizens. We know that security is one of the population’s biggest concerns,” she emphasized.

In Marcos Pontes’ analysis, video surveillance can intimidate the actions of criminals, in addition to catching crime situations and producing evidence for investigations. “Producing evidence is not an easy task, but a program like this becomes an important ally in police work,” he noted. “The use of technologies and artificial intelligence is a path of no return, a perennial service that needs to be ensured no matter who is in power”, he added.

The visit was accompanied by Mato Grosso senator Wellington Fagundes, who already knows Vigia Mais MT.

For Fagundes, in a state with the territorial dimension of Mato Grosso (903,357 km²) and a relatively small population (3.6 million, according to the 2022 Census), in addition to the use of technological resources and intelligence, it is necessary for institutions to act in a integrated into security actions. “Technology helps in an intelligent way, making the police present everywhere”, he pointed out.

Secretary César Roveri recalled that public security managers from other states have already been to Mato Grosso to learn about Vigia Mais. “We received visits from the secretaries of Amapá, Rondônia, Acre, Roraima and Maranhão”, he said.

Roveri explained to Senator Marcos Pontes that State Law 11,766, of May 2022, regulated by government decree 1,522, of November of the same year, was designed exactly to make Vigia Mais a State policy focused on video monitoring in public security. A permanent service aimed at reducing violence rates and providing the population with a greater sense of security. Furthermore, its objective is to produce evidence to clarify crimes and identify criminals.

He highlighted that the cameras are part of the State Government’s investments in Public Security within a policy that included the change from analogue radio communication to digital, allowing police forces to operate with a safer system in all municipalities.

Roveri informed that integration with the Ciosp system for monitoring BR-163 is viable and can be ensured with a partnership between Sesp, the Highway Police and the company that operates in the Mato Grosso section, after Wellington Fagundes commented on the possibility of installing cameras along the entire length of the highway in Mato Grosso.

“We already operate in an integrated manner”, he pointed out, mentioning as an example the offer of the digital radio communication signal provided by the State to the federal force on this highway.

Also participating in the meeting with the senators were the Deputy Secretary of Security, Colonel Hérverton Mourett; Colonel Flávio Gledson, Project Director at Ses; delegate Cláudio Alverez, superintendent of Ciosp; Lieutenant Colonel Adonival and Lieutenant Colonel Alencar, chief of staff at Sesp, who gave the technical explanation of Vigia Mais MT to the senators.

Vigia Mais MT

With an investment of approximately R$30 million, the State Government is equipping the 142 municipalities with the most modern video surveillance. There are 15 thousand cameras distributed to municipalities according to criteria such as population, territorial area and geographic location from the point of view of public security strategies.

According to Law 11,766/2022, which created the program, in addition to federal, state and municipal public authorities, membership can be made with private entities, that is, companies, associations, among others. The requirement is the same as that presented to public bodies, that is, that cameras be installed to monitor streets, avenues, squares and other public spaces of interest to collective security.
